VIETNAM TOURISM
Vietnam's history of tourism dates back to French colonization, and the country is now heavily dependent on tourism revenue. In 1976, Vietnam opened to tourists after the Vietnam War, but the country had little infrastructure and few visitors. It wasn't until the late 1980s and early 1990s that tourism became a significant part of the economy.
In 1993, the government eased visa requirements for international visitors, which helped open the country to the world. In 2019, tourism generated about $33 billion in revenue, contributing 9.2% to the country's GDP. Since 2022, Vietnam has been one of the world's fastest-growing tourist destinations, with monthly growth rates of 50–70%.
Vietnam is known for its rich history, culture, landscapes, and friendly people. Many tourist sites in Vietnam are war sites, including museums, remembrance sites, and locations from the wars. However, some say that the stories told to tourists at these sites can be exclusionary and may only present a positive representation of the Communist Party.
