This beautiful poster has been re-mastered from an early 1950s Mount Baldy advertising brochure. Mount Baldy is still operating today, perched high in the San Gabriel Mountains, east of Los Angeles, Ca.
The high-resolution image is printed on heavy archival photo paper, on a large-format, professional giclée process printer. The poster is shipped in a rigid cardboard tube, and is ready for framing.
The 13"x19" format is an excellent image size that looks great as a stand-alone piece of art, or as a grouped visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom sizing, and a wide variety of these frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online.
A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business!
MOUNT BALDY SKI AREA HISTORY
In 1934, a small group of avid ski enthusiasts led by Dr. Walter Mosauer formed the Ski Mountaineers of California to promote skiing in the area. The group expanded and eventually became a branch of the Sierra Club. The Ski Mountaineers were responsible for building ski huts in prime skiing locations such as Mount Baldy, and initiating some of the first organized downhill races. The first San Antonio Downhill was held at Mount Baldy on March 16th, 1935. The race was an amazing test of endurance and downhill slalom skiing. The course started at the 10,064’ summit of Mt. Baldy. The participants had to make a 4-5 hour climb up rocky, snow-covered trails, carrying all of their equipment just to make a single run down the slope. Mount Baldy got its first rope tow in 1944 on “Movie Slope” and two chairlifts were opened in 1952. Mount Baldy now has 4 chair lifts and 26 trails and runs.
