HISTORY
From the text in the Santa Barbara brochure:
ROMANTIC CHARM OF OLD CALIFORNIA
In 1542, the Spanish galleons of explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo entered Santa Barbara Channel. The Spanish Dons who followed made Santa Barbara a social and cultural center – a distinction the city has never lost. Annually, it relives its past in typical Spanish-American customs – like the Old Spanish Days Fiesta held each August. Dozens of other events throughout the seasons keep gayety here the year around…a gayety stemming from a cultural heritage centered in the County’s three Spanish missions – Old Mission Santa Barbara, 1786; La Purisma at Lompoc, 1787; and Santa Ines at Solvang, 1804.
