HISTORY OF POLORON SNOWMOBILES
 
Poloron Products was founded in 1937, and the company evolved into a small conglomerate. The company was headquartered in New Rochelle, a suburb of New York City. Poloron built a diverse line of products including riding lawn tractors and travel trailers in a dozen factories across the eastern U.S.
 
In the 1960s, Poloron entered the growing snowmobile business. Sleds were built at the company’s Michigan City, Indiana lawn tractor plant. They used parts sourced from a variety of manufacturers including Polaris and Sachs.
 
For the 1971 model year, Poloron sleds were significantly upgraded with new features and styling, including metalflake green hoods, dual headlamps, disc brakes, and additional engine options.
The higher performing Tornado models had twin cylinder, 340 cc Kohler engines, and ranged from 310 to 350 pounds.
 
Poloron sleds were good performers, but sales fell short, and the company ceased operations in 1981.
