HISTORY OF THE HOTEL FAST, JERUSALEM
 
The Hotel Howard in Jerusalem was built in 1891 by Theodor Sandel, a German architect. In 1907, the hotel was taken over by Abraham Fast, and it was renamed Hotel Fast.
 
Hotel Fast was a prominent hotel in Jerusalem, with 100 rooms encircling a courtyard with Ionic, Corinthian and Doric columns.
 
The British Mandate of Palestine was a geopolitical entity under British administration, established between 1920 and 1948 in the region of Palestine. During the 1930s, the Hotel Fast housed the German Consulate, and the German and British flags both flew over the building.
 
After the start of WWII, the hotel was taken over by the British who turned it into a base for Australian troops.
 
The building was demolished in 1976 to make way for the Dan Pearl Hotel.
