HISTORY OF GRAY’S CAMP

Gray’s Camp was opened around 1915, and began operation as a tent camp and boat rental facility. The camp later featured rustic cabins, a store, and full marina facility. Gray’s was a favorite among fishermen because it was the closest boating facility to the dam, and the water there remained deep, even when the lake was low. The camp sat at the end of the highway until 1924, when the road from Fawnskin to the dam was completed. The camp was once owned by cowboy movie legend Roy Rogers, and was used a backdrop in films. Gray’s Camp was renamed Gray’s Landing, and the facility was closed in 2002.
