This is a beautiful poster remastered from a 1956 advertisement for Nash automobiles, featuring a vintage Disneyland scene in the background. The Nash “Ambassador – Country Club” is parked next to the “Chicken of The Sea,” a unique Peter Pan-themed restaurant opened at Disneyland park on August 29, 1955. The Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant was a Fantasyland icon that was located where Dumbo the Flying Elephant ride is today.
The Nash advertisement also promoted the car’s seating which could be easily transformed into “a daybed that makes itself.” In this pre-mandatory seat belt ad, two small children are shown sleeping in the folded-down seats, as dad and mom drive on to their next destination.
The vibrant colors and detail of this classic image have been painstakingly brought back to life to preserve a great piece of history.
The high-resolution image is printed on heavy archival photo paper, on a large-format, professional giclée process printer. The poster is shipped in a rigid cardboard tube, and is ready for framing.
The 13"x19" format is an excellent image size that looks great as a stand-alone piece of art, or as a grouped visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom sizing, and a wide variety of 13"x19" frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online.
A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business!
HISTORY OF DISNEYLAND & CHICKEN OF THE SEA PIRATE SHIP
The Chicken of The Sea Pirate Ship was sponsored by the tuna company of the same name, and opened at the Disneyland park in August, 1955, just weeks after the park’s grand opening on July 17th. The ship was not actually a ride, but rather an elaborately themed restaurant, surrounded by Skull Rock Cove, where guests could sit and enjoy their meal. The Chicken of The Sea was located in Fantasyland, at the site of the present-day Dumbo ride.
The Chicken of the Sea company dropped its sponsorship of the restaurant in 1969, and the location was renamed Captain Hook’s Galley. In 1982, the attraction was removed to make way for the New Fantasyland at Disneyland park.
Disneyland Park, originally Disneyland, is the first of two theme parks built at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, opened on July 17, 1955. It is the only theme park designed and built to completion under the direct supervision of Walt Disney. It was originally the only attraction on the property; its official name was changed to Disneyland Park to distinguish it from the expanding complex in the 1990s. It is the oldest Disney Park in the world.
Walt Disney came up with the concept of Disneyland after visiting various amusement parks with his daughters in the 1930s and 1940s. He initially envisioned building a tourist attraction adjacent to his studios in Burbank to entertain fans who wished to visit; however, he soon realized that the proposed site was too small. After hiring a consultant to help him determine an appropriate site for his project, Disney bought a 160-acre (65 ha) site near Anaheim in 1953. Construction began in 1954 and the park was unveiled during a special televised press event on the ABC Television Network on July 17, 1955.
Since its opening, Disneyland has undergone expansions and major renovations, including the addition of New Orleans Square in 1966, Bear Country (now Critter Country) in 1972, Mickey's Toontown in 1993, and Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in 2019. Opened in 2001, Disney California Adventure Park was built on the site of Disneyland's original parking lot.
