HISTORY OF THE ANDERSON AND THOMPSON COMPANY
In the early 1930’s, ski pioneer Jørgen Aaland experimented with creating a laminated ski made up of multiple layers of wood bonded together. Aaland did not have the resources to manufacture this type of ski, and he approached Ray Anderson, a well-known ski instructor and president of a furniture manufacturer to support his idea. Anderson partnered with Ben Thompson in 1933 to start the Anderson & Thompson Ski Company, which was later known as the A&T Ski Company, and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. A&T began manufacturing skis using Aaland’s laminated ski idea design. In 1936, a U.S. patent for laminated skis was given to Ray Anderson.
In 1955, Henry Simonson and John Woodward bought the Anderson and Thompson Ski Company, and they sold the company in 1975. A&T continued to make skis until 1958, when they began to operate as a ski equipment distributor.
