HISTORY OF THE A.C. COBRA

The AC Cobra, sold in the United States as the Shelby Cobra and AC Shelby Cobra, is a sports car manufactured by British company AC Cars, with a Ford V8 engine. It was produced intermittently in both the United Kingdom and later the United States since 1962.

INFORMATION FROM THE 1965 A.C. COBRA BROCHURE:

THE COBRA

A.C. Cars offer the Cobra, designed by them, to meet the requirements of Shelby American Inc. This provides a sports car, which combines the very best in British craftsmanship, with the latest American techniques in engine and gear box design.

The Cobra was developed primarily as a road and touring car, and the outstanding success in Competition is a tribute to the soundness of Construction.

Reliability of the oversquare 4.7 litre Ford V.8 engine which power the Cobra has been adequately demonstrated under the most testing condition which Internation Sports Car competition is able to provide, this had been proved beyond all doubt by the following list of successes.

COMPETITIONS

Sports Car Championship of America, 1963, with outright wins too numerous to list during that year.
